Giliana Austin, mezzo-soprano
Lithuanian - American mezzo soprano Giliana Austin (Gilija Aukstikalnis) hails from Boston, Massachusetts.
Known for her expressive personality and character, she has performed throughout
the New England area, Europe and Australia. A singing actress, her comic delivery
and charisma on stage has been called "a gem". Fluent in Lithuanian, her
tremendous facility with languages has allowed her to explore multiple roles and
genres. Recent roles include, "Leila" in the Gilbert & Sullivan Operetta - Iolanthe and
"Miss Minchin" in the world premiere of Sara Crewe
in Massachusetts. The summer of 2008 will bring Miss Austin to Rome, Italy
where she perform the role of 2nd Lady in the Tuscia Operafestival Tour of Die Zauberflote.
She had the pleasure of performing in the Bay Area Summer Opera Theater Institute's scene program as
"Mrs. Ford" in The Merry Wives of Windsor, "Juno" in The Tempest, and "Second
Lady" in Die Zauberflöte. While in San Francisco, she also had the great pleasure of portraying the role of
"Il Dio" in the United States premiere of Handel's Silla which was re-orchestrated for
her to sing the role. Miss Austin studies privately with Andrea Delgiudice. When she
is not performing in theaters, she can be found performing at renaissance faires
across the US with the several music groups that she has founded such as "The
Regal Royales" and "Royales & Rogues" or maintaining several websites as a web designer.
